Sports Day For Charity – 2013

Sports Day For Charity

Sports Day for Charity is our primary fundraising activity.  Modeled after the previous AACO Sports Day event, it consists of sports Liner enjoys:  volleyball, cycling, and obstacle courses.  The volleyball format is grass reverse co-ed 4’s split into 4 divisions:  Friendship, Lower Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, Take No Prisoners (Junior Girls and Masters will debut next year).  The cycling event is a road ride from Campbell through the scenic south bay.  Various ride options (short, medium, and long) are available.  The obstacle course is for the kids (ages 4-12).  It’s an opportunity for them to test their fitness and coordination abilities, and “play Wipeout”!  The 2013 Sports Day for Charity was held on July 27, 2013 in Campbell, California.  Next year’s date will be announced in the near future.

July 29, 2013 – Thank you letter from the Founder

Wow. What a day!

Thank YOU for participating in Wipeout Cancer’s first annual Sports Day for Charity! What was only a thought three months ago became a reality Saturday with the help of amazing friends, dedicated donors, and a wealth of enthusiastic participants. We had over 500 participants across the three sports and were supported by more than 80 volunteers.

Many people came out to play for their Mom, Dad, Grandparents, siblings, teachers, coaches, and friends who have been affected by cancer. This disease has been around for too long. With your help, we are well on our way to accomplishing our goal of raising $50,000 in 5 years. Initial estimate is that we’ve raised $15,000 through our participants, raffle, and cash donations. The net proceeds will be shared with LiveSTRONG Foundation and Cancer CAREPoint in San Jose. Together, these groups are helping us in our fight against cancer.

I’d like to thank my close and dear friends, Mabelle Artz, Gil Chan, Andrew Choy, Lisa and Rob Lew, and Kelly Lo. Wipeout Cancer and Sports Day for Charity would not exist nor be a success were it not for their dedication. They spent countless hours planning and preparing for the event and went above and beyond expectations. I’d also like to recognize a few others:

*Miyako Takahashi – for providing us with a venue to get started
*Jennifer Smith – for organizing and managing the raffle
*Van Nguyen-Duong – for her help with PR, sponsors, and the breakfast
*Barbara Kozak and Big Design – for help with the t-shirts and signage
*And Nelson Hom, Brett Loo, Brad Mallison, and Joseph Payaoan for designing and building some very fun, cool, and challenging obstacles!

We would also like to thank all of our sponsors and the following vendors that were on-site; Good Karma BikesHealth LogicJamba Juice and Mike’s Bikes. We had rave reviews from the bikers on the bike support, appreciative athletes for the stretching services, and many enthusiastic jamba juice drinkers!

We look forward to seeing you in 2014!
